Full Insert Sequencing of the DGC
The Drosophila Gene Collection consists of three distinct clone sets derived mainly from automated clustering algorithms supplemented with cDNA clones chosen during the initial manual curation of the genome. Clones in these sets originate from our EST collection as do clones that comprise all other clone collections from the BDGP. This is a part of a long-term project to determine the sequence of all Drosophila transcripts, including products of alternative splicing, to help improve the annotations of genomic sequence maps. These maps will show intron-exon structure and alternative splice sites, as well as the location of transcription start and stop sites for all Drosophila genes.
The DGC has greatly facilitated our goal of generating clone sets for use in proteomics and other functional genomics projects.
